Çavşin Church, Çavuşin Church (Cavusin)
Çavuşin is a small village. it is a church recognized easily by its iron stairs which was built later, on the right of the road Çavuşin-Avcılar-Avanos and 9 km. to Avanos.
Although it reminds Tokalı Kilise with its rich subjects of frescoes, it does not have majestic figures. it has a large altar with barrel vault and has a large plan with two small apses. We see the frescoes of Christ and an apostle (maybe St. Thomas or St. Battalemus) in the apse.
The dominance of rust red, brown, green tones and the anatomies of the figures lead us to think that the church was built in the early period.
Subjects of the frescoes in the church are: the Annunciation, the Trial by Water, Presentation of the Gifts, the Massacre of the Innocents, Joseph's dream, the Flight into Egypt, the Baptism, the Raising of Lazarus, the Healing of the Blind, the Entry into Jerusalem, the Last Supper, the Betrayal, the Crucifixion, Descent from the Cross, the Women at the Tomb, the Resurrection, the Ascension. There are also some portraits of the Saints.
