Goreme Turkey (Gor'emi - Korama) Cappadoce Goreme
A small town in a very beautiful valley, Göreme is 17 km. to Nevşehir and 10 km. to Ürgüp.
People living here have opened some rooms of their houses for tourists and so they show the hospitality of Turkish families. You can watch the charming beauty of Göreme Valley during sunrise and sunset because of the wonderful scene the shadows the fairy chimneys form.
Structure of the land which was formed by volcanic explosions and erosions provides a nice view. The churches in Göreme form a nice composition together.
Göreme was an important center of Christianity with some hundred churches in the 6th and 9th centuries. Zelve, Mustafa Pasha, Avcılar, Uçhisar, Ortahisar and Çavuşin Churches are the masterpieces of the same age. Indeed, Küçük Şapel (SmaIl Chapel), Tokalı Kilise (the Bass Church or the Buckle Church), Meryem Ana Kilisesi (Virgin Mary Church), Elmalı Kilise (Church of the Apple Tree), Yılanlı Kilise (Church of the Serpents), Barbara Kilisesi (the Church of St. Barbara) are the churches which survive today with all their characteristics in Göreme.
