The first definite findings about the life in Gelveri began with Christianity. But obsidion and pieces of pots and pans found at this location have proved that there was life at this place in the Paleolithic Age. Afterwards, Güzelyurt was a country for the Asur Trade Colonies, the Hittites, the Meds, the Perisans, the Cappadocia Kingdom, the Roman Empire, the Byzantines, the Seljuks and the Ottomans.

The importance of Güzelyurt in history began with Christianity, with the father and the son Gregorios.
