Avanos Turkey, Nevsehir Avanos
it is a small town founded in the period of Seljuks by the river Kızılırmak 13 km. to Ürgüp and 20 km. to Nevşehir. Pottery has developed as the handcraft in the town. Plates, saucepans and such furnitures are made of red soil. Carpet woving is another handcraft.
The old name of Avanos was Venessa, meaning river side.
